Al Brandel - 35 Years of Service To Others


In the COMMUNITY...

In addition to his Lionistic activities, Al has been a Little League volunteer, a member of the Parish Council, and a Eucharistic Minister in his Church.

Al is a former member of the Knights of Columbus

Al has received his "EIGHT GALLON" pin as a blood donor


In his PROFESSION...

After serving the community for 35 years as a Detective for the Nassau County Police Department, Al retired in August 2005.

He had been assigned to the Juvenile Aid Bureau for over 20 years, specializing in cases involving child abuse, missing children, and domestic violence involving children. In 2003, Al was transferred to the Missing Persons Section of the NCPD where he was recognized for his professionalism and expertise in solving several key cases.

Al has been recognized in his profession with numerous awards, among them the  Congressional Award from Congressman Ray McGrath, NCPD Holy Name Society MAN OF THE YEAR, and the Meritorious Police Service Award twice.

Al was honored by his colleagues, having been selected by the Nassau County  Detectives Association as DETECTIVE OF THE YEAR in Nassau County, a community with a population of nearly 1.5 million.


In his PERSONAL LIFE...

Al is married to Dr. Maureen Murphy, a medical doctor whose specialty is Pediatric Anesthesia and who has served in the United States Air Force with the rank of Major. Al and Maureen reside on Long Island in Melville, NY, USA. Lion Maureen is the Past President of the Melville Lions Club where Al is also an Associate Member. He retains his 30 - year membership with the West Hempstead Lions.
