Al has been actively serving
MD 20 and International, fulfilling his responsibilities as a PID
- Multiple speaking engagements since
leaving the International Board in 1995, including the United States, Canada
and England
- Key Note Speaker at the House of
Commons for Lions Day at the United Nations for MD 105
- North American Membership Program:
Selected by PIP Jim Coffey to serve with PIP Bill Biggs and 11 other PIDs,
including Immediate Past President Clem Kusiak, to promote membership growth
throughout North America
- UNICEF: Since leaving the board
in 1995, appointed by every International President to represent our
International Association as its representative to UNICEF, NY. In this
capacity, negotiated the Memorandum of Understanding and established the
"School in a Box" (also known as "EDUKIT") as a Lions Club
Project.
- Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)
Council of United Nations Association/United States of America
(UNA/USA): Elected to four 2 year terms; currently serving as
Chairman of the Executive Committee of the NGO Council of the
UNA/USA.
- Junior Chamber of Commerce International
(JCI): Served Presidents Wunder,Soliva and Patterson to negotiate
with the Junior Chamber of Commerce International, resulting in the Memorandum
of Understanding JCI/LCI. The Memorandum, signed by then President Patterson,
enables former JCI members to join a Lions Club with time credited for their
JCI service and no new member fees to become a Lion.
- Lions Eye Bank of Long Island:
Served as an Ex Officio Member of the Board of Directors of the Eye Bank; has
also been an eye tissue transporter for the Eye Bank.
- Guide Dog Foundation of
Smithtown: Elected as a member of the Board of Directors and in
addition, served one year on the Executive Committee
- World Sight Day, New York:
Assisted then President Kajit Habanananda to coordinate the first World Sight
Day in New York - held in October 1998
- International Conventions:
Selected by the incoming International President to officially announce the
International Parade in Indianapolis, has served as Chairman of the Resolutions
Committee, the Rules Committee, and was Vice Chairman of the Nominating
Committee; also a presenter at several International
Conventions.
- District Governor Elect School:
Requested by Presidents Soliva, Patterson, Habanananda, Ervin, Behar, and Moore
to participate as a DGE Group Leader at each of their respective schools;
taught at President Wroblewski's DGE School in 1985, while still a
PDG.
- USA/CANADA Leadership Forum:
Asked to be a presenter and/or panelist at each of the USA/CANADA Forums,
including Portland, Oregon in September 2003.
- World Trade Center Relief Efforts:
Organized the initial efforts of the Lions in response to the needs
of 9/11 by assembling a team of volunteers responsible for distribution of
food, equipment, money and personnel for the Lions 9/11 Relief
Efforts.
- Board Appointee: Al was
appointed by International President TS Lee to serve on the Service and
Activities Committee.
- Impact Team: As a Board
Appointee, Al was invited to participate with the Impact Team 2003-2004 and the
leaders of Lions Clubs International, focusing on membership in North
America.
