Al Brandel - 30 Years of Lionism

Al, as INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR

1993-1995

  • Served as International Director on the International Board of Lions Clubs International

  • Chairman of the Membership Development Committee

  • Board Representative to the Executive Committee of the USA/CANADA Leadership Forum for Des Moines, Iowa

  • Organized and participated in Membership Summits in North America, Latin America, and Australia; the general goal of the summits was to discover and address membership needs throughout the world

  • The Lions Day at the United States Capitol:  then President Jim Coffey and ID Al, along with then IDs Jim Ervin and LeGrand Perce, III  hosted Congressional Leaders at the US Capitol to promote Lionism

  • Board actions of the International Association which resulted directly from the efforts of the Membership Committee during International Director Al's two-year tenure:
  • Established the Lioness Conversion Pin

  • Changed the Membership Keys to modern day use

  • Established additional membership categories to make participation in Lions Clubs more member friendly (e.g., associate, affiliate)

  • Established the Leo Graduation Certificate allowing Leos to join Lions Clubs free of new member fees
